New collaboration between NKUA and Harvard University

On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, Harvard University and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens launched a new promising agreement. Crystallized in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Professor M.-A. Dimopoulos, Rector of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and Professor Jane J. Kim, Dean for Academic Affairs at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and K.T. Li Professor of Health Economics in the Department of Health Policy and Management, this historic collaboration initiative includes a three-week interdisciplinary summer course in Greece.

Fruit of collaboration between the François-Xavier Bagnoud (FXB) Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University, the Refugee and Migration Studies Hub at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece and the U.S., the course will be held in Athens, Nafplio and Lesvos from July 11, 2022 through July 31, 2022, and aims to offer participants both conceptual and practical engagement with key issues related to contemporary forced migration through lectures, seminars, interactive class sessions and fieldwork. The course aligns with the spirit and mission of the Node of Excellence for Asylum and Immigration of EKPA – an interdisciplinary research structure which supports and promotes research in the hot subjects of immigration and refugee crisis.

In the framework of the on-line event of the 19th of January, the Greek Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Mrs. Niki Kerameos, and David Burger, Deputy Chief of the U.S. Mission in Greece highlighted the importance of such initiatives for the reinforcement of academic collaboration between Greece and the U.S., and pointed out their contribution to the internationalization and extroversion of Greek Higher Education.
