The Department of Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus invites applications for admission to the Distance Learning Master of Science “Advanced Cybersecurity Technologies and Governance by Research” for the academic year 2026–2027. The M.Sc. programme is scheduled to commence in October 2026.
The language of instruction for all courses is English, and all reading materials are provided in English.
The programme is delivered entirely online through distance learning.
The M.Sc. programme has been established within the framework of the European project EU-iNSPIRE (EU iNnovative multi-diSciPlinary Industry-focused cybersecurity education for upskilling and Reskilling the EU workforce) which is funded under the programme DIGITAL-2023-SKILLS-05 (Grant Agreement No. 101190054).
The duration of the M.Sc. Programme leading to the award of the Master’s Degree is three (3) academic semesters. The first two (2) semesters comprise taught courses, while the third semester is devoted to the preparation of the Master’s Thesis. Throughout the cycle of studies, students will also be notified of any seminar-type lectures that are scheduled.
Postgraduate students have the option of preparing their thesis under the LLP Erasmus programme in European Union Member States or in third countries, in collaboration with universities that maintain academic partnerships with the Department of Digital Systems.
The M.Sc. programme is open to graduates of Higher Education Institutions in Greece or equivalent institutions abroad. Indicatively, eligible applicants include graduates from: Departments of Informatics and Communications, Departments of Physical and Technological Sciences, Engineering Schools, Law Schools. Additionally, graduates of the Hellenic National School of Public Administration and from Military Academies of the Armed Forces and Security Forces are also eligible to apply.
The evaluation of candidates is conducted by the Admissions Evaluation Committee, composed of faculty members of the program and established by decision of the Department’s Assembly. The evaluation process shall be carried out in accordance with the criteria and procedures stipulated in the Program’s Regulations and shall include a remote personal interview conducted via approved digital communication platforms.
The first evaluation phase is based on the information/documents provided by the candidates. The criteria used in this phase are the following:

The total points from the first evaluation phase carry a weighting of 80% in the final score. The second phase consists of a personal interview of all candidates, in which each one’s particular aptitude, potential, and overall academic profile are assessed. This phase carries a weighting of 20%
All applicants to the M.Sc. Programme are required to pay an application fee of two hundred (200) euros. This fee is non-refundable, regardless of the evaluation outcome.
The tuition fees for students who are citizens of EU Member States and Digital Europe Programme (DEP) countries are waived since they are fully covered by the European project EU-iNSPIRE. For students coming from non-EU countries, the tuition fees are five thousand euros (5.000€).
According to the Postgraduate Studies Regulation, tuition fees are paid in two equal instalments: the first instalment upon the announcement of those admitted to the M.Sc. Programme, to reserve the place, and the second instalment at the beginning of the second academic semester.
According to the Postgraduate Studies Regulation of the Program, the M.Sc. may provide a number of scholarships each academic semester to postgraduate students who pay tuition fees, in accordance with a decision of the Department’s Assembly, following a recommendation from the Master Program’s Coordinating Committee. The amount of each scholarship cannot exceed the tuition fees of one semester.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic criteria during the course of studies in the M.Sc..
In addition, the M.Sc. program will announce Open Calls for “Educational Mobility Grants (EMG)” which are funded by the EU-iNSPIRE project and support educational travel of students to participate in educational activities and vocational training by providing financial assistance to cover part of the costs associated with such travel. A pivotal element of this open call is to encourage the participation of individuals of diverse backgrounds, including gender, socio-economic status, and geographical location through financial support, to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities in cybersecurity education. EMG will subsidise the 50% of the expenses such as transportation, accommodation, meals, tuition fees, and materials or equipment needed for vocational training. More specifically, travel can be about: a) attending academic conferences, or events where scholars come together to present and discuss their latest research, b) participating/attending workshops, seminars, or short-term educational programs, often involving hands-on learning and/or practical exercises, designed to enhance their skills and knowledge, c) attending courses and study tours organized by educational institutions that provide participants with an opportunity to visit and learn from scientific facilities focusing on cybersecurity domain d) scholarships specifically for students participating in internships to cover up the costs associated with the internship, such as transportation, housing, or living expenses.
