The University of Western Macedonia is taking another step forward in its internationalization process by joining the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI). This development highlights the strategic direction of the University of Western Macedonia towards internationalization and, at the same time, its commitment to contributing to addressing issues of global interest through education and research. Thus, the University of Macedonia is now one of 1,800 institutions from 150 countries that share common values and goals for a more just and sustainable future.
From equal access to education and the defense of human rights to environmental protection, the promotion of peace, and the strengthening of intercultural dialogue, the University of Western Macedonia plans actions with the active participation of students, researchers, and faculty members. The principles of the United Nations Academic Impact are adopted by the academic community, giving the University of Western Macedonia a substantial role in international dialogue.
The UNAI initiative was established in 2010 to unite universities and research institutions from around the world around the principles of the UN, promoting actions and best practices on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (quality education, sustainable cities and communities and reduced inequalities to name a few of them). In this context, the University of Western Macedonia adopts them as a “roadmap” for its teaching, research, and social interventions. Through initiatives that support sustainability, participation, and innovation, it seeks to inspire and act with a meaningful impact both locally and globally.
