Study in Greece Visits Amman, Jordan

The President of Study in Greece, Christos Michalakelis, visited Amman, Jordan, from 5 to 9 March 2025, at the invitation of the Greek Ambassador to Jordan, Ms. Rigas. As part of the visit, meetings were held at the following universities:

Accompanied by Ambassador Ms. Rigas and Deputy Ambassador Mr. Andreas Spyropoulos, the delegation met with university presidents, faculty members, and administrative representatives to explore academic collaborations between Greek and Jordanian institutions. The topics of discussion revolved around potential partnerships, including student exchanges, summer schools, short-term programs, joint postgraduate and doctoral degrees, as well as research and development initiatives—all of which were met with great enthusiasm from Jordanian universities.

Presentation on Study Opportunities in Greece

On Saturday, 8 March, a detailed presentation was held on study opportunities in Greece, covering programs in all academic levels, taught in English and in Greek. The event attracted over 150 attendees, including students, parents, teachers, and alumni of Greek universities. Additionally, the session was broadcast live on social media, reaching an audience of more than 500 viewers, according to data from the Greek Embassy. The presentation concluded with a lively Q&A session, demonstrating strong Jordanian interest in undergraduate, postgraduate, and short-term study options in Greece. Also in attendance was Mrs. Vasiliki Papanikolaou, the Consul General of Greece in Amman, who provided information on visa procedures and answered audience inquiries.

Strengthening Educational Ties

Jordan has a long-standing educational relationship with Greece, with Jordanian and Palestinian students studying at Greek universities for decades. The “Greek University Alumni Club”, which once had around 3,500 members, continues to play a crucial role in fostering these ties. In recognition of this visit’s significance, the Board of Directors of the Alumni Club presented a commemorative plaque to the President of Study in Greece, symbolizing the deep appreciation of Jordanian graduates for this initiative. The visit was seen as a milestone in further strengthening educational cooperation between the two countries.

A Successful Mission

The culmination of this visit reaffirmed Jordan’s strategic role in the internationalization of Greek universities. Given its historical connections, strong academic interest, and regional influence, Jordan represents a key partner for Greek higher education institutions. Greek universities are therefore encouraged to prioritize collaborations in Jordan and the broader Middle East region. Study in Greece extends its sincere gratitude to the Greek Ambassador and the Embassy staff for their invitation, exceptional organization, and warm hospitality. This visit underscores the long-standing and highly productive collaboration between Study in Greece and Greek diplomatic authorities, which continues to yield significant results in promoting Greek higher education internationally.
