New Academic Partnership between the University of Western Macedonia and Yale University

The Department of Midwifery at the University of Western Macedonia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Yale Scholl of Nursing at Yale University in the United States, establishing a new avenue for collaboration in education and research in the field of midwifery.

The agreement provides for the exchange of scientific knowledge and best practices, the development of joint research and educational initiatives, the organization of scientific events, and the promotion of mobility for students, as well as academic staff from both institutions.

Yale University’s scientific tradition and its emphasis on evidence-based clinical practice make this agreement particularly significant for linking academic education with contemporary developments in obstetrics.

On behalf of the University of Western Macedonia, the initiative and coordination of efforts leading to the signing of the Memorandum were undertaken by the Chair of the Department of Midwifery, Associate Professor Dimitrios Papoutsis, who is also the academic coordinator responsible for its implementation. Professor Michelle Telfer served as the coordinator on behalf of Yale University.

The Rector of the Department of Midwifery, Professor Theodoros Theodoulidis, noted:

We are investing in a university that is not limited to the transmission of knowledge but actively participates in its production and application through research and collaboration. The initiative of the Department of Midwifery is part of this effort and highlights the role of our faculty in shaping the University’s international presence. Our goal is for every such collaboration to have continuity, substance, and a measurable impact on our academic journey”.

The Chair of the Department of Midwifery, Associate Professor Dimitrios Papoutsis, noted:

“The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding marks the practical realization of a personal vision: the creation of international collaborations with leading American universities that transform knowledge into opportunities and scientific excellence into progress. The partnership with Yale University opens new horizons for education, research, and innovation in obstetrics. Our goal is not merely to keep pace with international developments, but to actively participate in shaping them, creating added value for our students, the academic community, and society”.
