MSc in “Molecular Biology and Biomedicine” – Call for Applications

The Departments of Biology and Medicine of the University of Crete and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) operate the Interinstitutional Graduate Program “Molecular Biology – Biomedicine”.

The program will commence in the academic year 2026-2027, coinciding with the start of the winter semester at the Department of Biology, University of Crete (September 2026).

This graduate program leads to the awarding of a Master’s Degree (M.Sc.) in “Molecular Biology – Biomedicine” after completing four (4) academic semesters.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold a first-cycle degree from a Higher Education Institution (HEI) or a
recognized foreign institution in relevant disciplines, including:

  • Natural & Life Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agricultural Science)
  • Health Sciences (Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry)
  • Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering & Technology Sciences


Selection is based on the following criteria:

  1. Undergraduate degree grade, transcript, and ECTS credits
  2. Performance in undergraduate courses related to the specialization
  3. Proven proficiency in English (minimum B2 level)
  4. Evaluation of recommendation letters
  5. Personal interview and interview before an 11-member committee
  6. Any other qualifications demonstrated through submitted documents

Application Process
Interviews: a. Personal Interviews on 25th May 2026 and b. Interviews with the 11-member
Committee on 28th May 2026 (details to be announced after the application deadline).

Submission: Applications and supporting documents must be submitted electronically via
https://postgrad.cict.uoc.gr. Applicants must create a user account to complete and manage
their application.

Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following via the online platform:

  1. Application form
  2. Statement of purpose detailing motivation for graduate studies
  3. The names and emails of two referees who will provide recommendation letters
  4. One passport-sized photograph
    Additionally, the following certificates/documents must be uploaded:
  5. Degree certificate (or transcript if the degree is pending)
  6. Official transcript with GPA and ECTS credits
  7. Proof of English proficiency (minimum B2 level)
  8. Copy of ID or passport

Enrollment Requirements
Accepted candidates must provide their degree certificate or official completion confirmation upon enrollment (September 2026).

For holders of equivalent degrees from foreign universities, the degree certificate and transcript must bear an APOSTILLE stamp and, if not originally issued in English, must be officially translated into Greek or English by the respective Embassy/Consulate.

In some cases, the admissions committee may require candidates to pass specific undergraduate courses as a prerequisite for enrollment.

Document Format Requirements

  • Scanned certificates must be in PDF format, labeled appropriately (e.g., “Degree Certificate,” “Transcript,” “English Proficiency”).
  • File size limits:
    • Maximum 2MB per file
    • Maximum 20MB total
  • Photograph requirements:
    • Formats: PNG, JPEG
    • Size: 200px × 200px, max 2MB
