The Harokopio University of Athens is a state University, founded by the national benefactor Panagis Harokopos in 1919 while operating in its current legal form since 1990. The main campus is located on two hectares of an estate in the Municipality of Kallithea near Athens city center. Its history is unique, as it has evolved and been distinguished in a very short time, featuring curricula based on modern scientific trends and international standards. It caters interdisciplinary studies targeting health science, technology, the environment and the economy to promote sustainable development and improve quality of life.

Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) in Greece, formed in 2019 from the Technological Educational Institute of Crete, has campuses in Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos, and Sitia. It offers diverse programs in Engineering, Health Sciences, Management, Agriculture, and Music.

Hellenic Open University

The Hellenic Open University (H.O.U.) is an independent, self–governed public higher education institution, formally established in 1992. It is the only open and distance learning university in Greece and began its operation in 1997.

The mission of the HOU is to provide high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate university education using a combination of online platforms, printed and web-based materials, assignments, and online tutorials. Degrees from HOU are fully accredited and recognized like those from traditional Greek universities.

H.O.U. has four (4) Schools- the School of Science and Technology, the School of Humanities, the School of Social Sciences and the School of Applied Arts and Sustainable Design. It offers 67 Postgraduate Programmes and 9 Undergraduate programmes. Among these, 12 Postgraduate programmes are offered in languages other than Greek, mainly English, but also French, German and Spanish.

Currently the HOU has more than 30.000 enrolled students.

International Hellenic University

The multi-campus and multi-cultural Greek University

The International Hellenic University (IHU) was initially established by Law (No 3391/2005) as the first and only Greek public University where all postgraduate programmes were taught exclusively in English. It was re-established by Law (No 4610/2019 & Νο 5094/2024), is based in Thessaloniki, located in several campuses (Thessaloniki, Serres, Katerini, Kilkis) and comprises 8 Schools and 25 Departments, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

The IHU operates the University Center of International Programmes of Studies (UCIPS) which is situated in Thermi, Thessaloniki and offers twenty-six (26) specialist postgraduate programmes in cutting edge disciplines, taught exclusively in English. All degrees awarded are accredited by the Government and are recognized in the European Union and internationally.

National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens holds a prominent position in Greek history as it is the first founded university in the country and in Southeastern Europe. It is a research University and, as a leading higher education institution since 1837,  aims to advance knowledge and educate students in sciences and arts that will best serve the nation and the community of the twenty-first century. It provides innovative and dynamic curricular offerings, builds a transformative global educational experience for students, implements novel approaches to teaching, learning and research, and it is always prepared for  new technological advances and socioeconomic changes. NKUA places 89th in the world and 16th in Europe, marking a big jump in global University rankings. The Technical University of Crete (TUC), located in Chania, was founded in 1977 and admitted its first students in 1984. University of Patras

The University of Patras was founded in the city of Patras in 1964 and started to operate in academic year 1966-1967. In June 2013 the University of Western Greece was integrated into the University of Patras. In 2019 the majority of the departments of the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece were also integrated into the University of Patras.

It is situated in Patras, Agrinion and Messolonghi. The main campus is located 7 km North East of the city of Patras, in the suburb of Rion. The campus lies on the foothills of Mount Panachaico with a view over the Corinthian Gulf and to the mountains of Central Greece across the sea.

It is the 3 rd largest University in Greece in terms of students, faculty members, administrative personnel, number of departments and degrees awarded. The University has acquired a reputation for producing quality and innovative research and for taking part in a plethora of research projects, scientific organizations and research groups.

The General University Hospital of Patras is located next to the University. Rio has become a very important transport junction for Western Greece, especially since the construction of the Rio-Antirrio Bridge, which connects the suburb of Rio with the town of Antirrio, linking the Peloponnese peninsula with mainland Greece and thus giving residents and visitors quick and easy access to mainland Greece.
