Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

At the threshold of its first centenary, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has become inextricably linked with the events and historical milestones of the city and our country. Starting off with minimal staff, students, and afflicted by constant relocations, it evolved today into one of the two largest and most multidisciplinary universities in Greece, with 42 undergraduate programs covering the full spectrum of sciences and arts, more than 200 postgraduate programs, and an academic community of over 90,000 people.

Throughout this journey, the fundamental vision still remains the high quality of its research output and educational outcomes, a vision that grants its recognition and prestige both within Greek society as well as the international academic community. Today, it is at the very epicenter of an ecosystem of education, research, and innovation that serves not only of Northern Greece, but the whole country.

Harokopio University of Athens

The Harokopio University of Athens is a state University, founded by the national benefactor Panagis Harokopos in 1919 while operating in its current legal form since 1990. The main campus is located on two hectares of an estate in the Municipality of Kallithea near Athens city center. Its history is unique, as it has evolved and been distinguished in a very short time, featuring curricula based on modern scientific trends and international standards. It caters interdisciplinary studies targeting health science, technology, the environment and the economy to promote sustainable development and improve quality of life.

The University and all its programs are fully accredited according to EU standards, while it has chartered a Green University Policy since 2016. The relatively small number of students, combined with the high level of commitment of the well-esteemed teaching staff, ensure the high quality of a personalized educational experience. It offers four undergraduate programs and nine postgraduate programs, three of which are international. More than one-third of the student population are postgraduate and Ph.D. students.

High-quality research is carried out at Harokopio University of Athens. Research cooperation with national and international organizations aims to the development of innovative methods, services, and products, which may have a direct impact on improving the Quality of Life. Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) in Greece, formed in 2019 from the Technological Educational Institute of Crete, has campuses in Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, Agios Nikolaos, and Sitia. It offers diverse programs in Engineering, Health Sciences, Management, Agriculture, and Music.

HMU emphasizes research and innovation, with modern facilities and a vibrant student life. It actively participates in international programs like Erasmus+ for global exchanges, with 153 bilateral agreements within Europe and 72 beyond (e.g., USA, China, Israel). HMU is a member of European Joint MSc degrees (Mundus) and the European University Alliances (ATHENA). It offers numerous COILs and Blended Intensive Programs and is part of the European Research Facilities (Printed Electronics, Chips, and Lasers). Committed to high standards and continuous improvement, HMU equips students for the modern workforce, making it a prime destination for education and research on Crete.

International Hellenic University

The International Hellenic University (IHU) is based in Thessaloniki, Greece, and has 5 campuses in Northern Greece. IHU operates 8 Schools with 25 Departments, covering subjects and scientific fields that meet the demands of a modern university, including a University Center for International Programs of Study, aimed at providing higher education through foreign-language programs at undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Additionally, the University has more than 40 established research laboratories and offers 26 postgraduate programs in English. IHU has extensive collaborations with universities, research centers, and social institutions, both in Greece and abroad. The university’s research activity is significant, with a strong emphasis on national and European funding frameworks. Its research initiatives include many projects funded by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), INTERREG cross-border collaborations, and European programs such as HORIZON 2020, Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions, and Erasmus+ KA2.

National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Τhe National and Kapodistrian University ofAthens(NKUA), the oldest and largest Greek university, is a public university located in Athens. Inaugurated in 1837, it has been the first university in the newly established Modern Greek state, as well as in the Balkan and the Eastern Mediterranean area. Its role has been historically and socially decisive for education and promotion of cultural life in the country and beyond. When inaugurated, it comprised four Schools; Theology, Law, Medicine and the School of “Philosophy and Other Fundamental Studies” (which included applied sciences and mathematics). 

For the academic year 2024-25, the NKUA offers 41 undergraduate programs as well as 250 postgraduate programs leading to a Master’s or Doctoral degree. 35 of these postgraduate programs are taught in a foreign language. There is also the English “BA Program in the Archaeology, History and Literature of Ancient
Greece”, and a Medical Degree in English exclusively for international students.

Technical University of Crete

The Technical University of Crete (TUC), located in Chania, is a leader in research and technological innovation, offering cutting-edge education through its five schools: Production Engineering and Management, Mineral Resources Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and Architecture. With over 5,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students, TUC excels in areas such as energy, environment, and technology. The university fosters international collaborations and is deeply committed to research, sustainability, and societal contributions, aiming to address global challenges and drive regional growth.

Master of Science in Sustainable Engineering and Climate Change

The MSc in Sustainable Engineering and Climate Change at the Technical University of Crete is a hybrid program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to address global environmental challenges. Hosted by the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, the program is structured over three semesters (90 ECTS) and offers a blend of online and in-person learning. Faculty members have a strong research background, and the curriculum integrates both theoretical and practical components, preparing students to engage in applied research and industry practices. The program also includes specialized research lectures, which facilitate exposure to contemporary environmental issues and innovative solutions. The hybrid format allows flexibility, making it accessible to both local and international students, while offering a comprehensive learning experience. Tuition is highly competitive at €1,500 for EU residents, with an additional fee structure for non-EU students.

Master of Science in Machine Learning and Data Science

The Machine Learning and Data Science (MLDS) Master’s program in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Technical University of Crete accepts students with a strong background in computer science, physics, software engineering, statistics, econometrics, or applied mathematics, or a similar field. Applicants are expected to have at least some knowledge of programming fundamentals. All program activities take place in English. We offer a well-focused, state-of-the-art curriculum that involves hands-on learning. Our faculty hold doctoral degrees from esteemed European and American universities. Most of us have held academic or research positions in North America and Europe. We spend time with students outside the classroom as they work on their capstone projects. Seminar talks given by researchers from universities, research institutes, and industry provide students with networking opportunities. The tuition fees are very competitive: the entire program costs 500 euros for residents of the European Economic Area (EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and 1,000 euros for non-residents.

University of Crete

The University of Crete (UoC) is a hub of academic excellence, committed to high-quality research, education, sustainable development, and societal impact. University of Patras

The University of Patras was founded in the city of Patras in 1964 and started to operate in academic year 1966-1967. In June 2013 the University of Western Greece was integrated into the University of Patras. In 2019 the majority of the departments of the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece were also integrated into the University of Patras.

It is situated in Patras, Agrinion and Messolonghi. The main campus is located 7 km North East of the city of Patras, in the suburb of Rion. The campus lies on the foothills of Mount Panachaico with a view over the Corinthian Gulf and to the mountains of Central Greece across the sea.

It is the 3rd  largest University in Greece in terms of students, faculty members, administrative personnel, number of departments and degrees awarded.  Adopting the principles of internationalisation & extroversion, UPatras promotes cooperations with other Institutions/entities abroad in the context of :

  • the Erasmus+ Programme (657 agreements with institutions in Programme countries and 30 agreements with institutions in the framework of International Credit Mobility) 
  • its participation in international Networks & Organisations
  • Memoranda of Understanding (102 with foreign institutions aiming at educational & research cooperation and 122 with Greek institutions/companies).

The University has acquired a reputation for producing quality and innovative research and for taking part in a plethora of research projects, scientific organizations and research groups.

The General University Hospital of Patras is located next to the University. Rio has become a very important transport junction for Western Greece, especially since the construction of the Rio-Antirrio Bridge, which connects the suburb of Rio with the town of Antirrio, linking the Peloponnese peninsula with mainland Greece and thus giving residents and visitors quick and easy access to mainland Greece.

University of Thessaly

The University of Thessaly is located in Central Greece, with campuses in five cities: Volos, Larissa, Karditsa, Trikala and Lamia. It is one of the largest Greek universities with 45,000 students and ranks in the top 960 universities internationally, according to acclaimed university rankings. Its 8 Schools include 35 Academic Departments. It is a “comprehensive” university, covering a wide range of academic disciplines at undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD level.

It offers 101 postgraduate programs, and all its Departments support innovative research towards the PhD degree. The University has accomplished top performances in research, education and collaboration with society and entrepreneurship. In 2023, more than 40 Faculty members of the University are included in the 2% Most-Cited List of Scientists by Stanford University Rankings. It also promotes equity, diversity and inclusiveness in all its campuses.

Internationalization constitutes a key priority and a strategic target of the University. We seek cooperation with foreign Universities to establish research cooperation, as well as student exchange, and we offer a person-to-person collaboration of students with our teaching staff, in a pleasant and safe academic environment.

University of Western Macedonia

The University of Western Macedonia is a modern, regional University, in a trajectory of rapid growth and extroversion, steadily rising in the international university rankings, in terms of academic and research work. Investing in “research – green innovation – knowledge – contribution to society”, the 7 Schools and 21 Departments operate in 5 cities – Kozani, Kastoria, Florina, Grevena and Ptolemaida – and offer high-quality academic education to more than 15.000 undergraduate, 4.000 postgraduate and PhD students enrolled in 21 undergraduate, 37 postgraduate and 21 PhD Programs, respectively.

As a strategic partner of the Greek State in the Just Transition Development Plan in the post-lignite era for the Region of Western Macedonia, the UoWM actively participates in Greece’s energy transformation and is evolving into a European and Mediterranean hub of green innovation, applied research and entrepreneurship, welcoming technology companies and attracting science and research staff.
