Study in Greece (SiG) participated for the fourth consecutive year in the EAIE Annual Conference and Exhibition, one of the leading international events in higher education, which took place in Glasgow from 8 to 11 September 2026. Together with nine Greek universities and the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), SiG contributed to maintaining the visibility of Greek higher education within the international academic landscape, at an event that brought together more than 7,000 participants from around the world.
The Greek delegation included representatives from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Athens University of Economics & Business, Harokopio University of Athens, Hellenic Mediterranean University, International Hellenic University, University of Crete, University of Ioannina, University of Patras and University of Western Macedonia, alongside the State Scholarships Foundation, Greece’s National Agency for Erasmus+.
Over the course of the conference, representatives of the participating institutions engaged with universities and higher education organisations from across the world, presenting their academic profiles and exploring opportunities for new collaborations. Discussions focused on areas including student and staff mobility, joint and dual degree programmes, research cooperation and broader internationalisation initiatives, providing Greek universities with a platform to develop new connections and strengthen existing ones.
A key highlight of Greece’s participation was the Greek-Scottish matchmaking event held on September 8th, organised by Study in Greece and the British Council within the framework of the UK-Greece Strategic Partnership in Education. The event brought together representatives of ten Greek institutions and ten Scottish universities, creating a dedicated space for discussions on academic and research collaboration, student mobility and the development of joint and dual programmes.
The matchmaking event also highlighted the progress achieved through the Strategic Partnership in Education since its establishment in 2021. To date, 24 Greek universities and more than 50 UK institutions have participated in the initiative, with around 100 online matchmaking sessions contributing to the creation of more than 50 academic and research partnerships, as well as eight joint and dual study programmes.
Beyond the individual meetings and discussions, Greece’s presence at EAIE 2026 served an important broader purpose: keeping Greek higher education visible and actively represented at one of the international sector’s largest gatherings. With more than 7,000 participants from higher education institutions and organisations worldwide, the conference offered a valuable opportunity for Greek universities to present themselves alongside institutions from across the global academic community and to remain connected to developments and emerging opportunities in international higher education.
The fourth consecutive participation of Study in Greece and Greek universities at EAIE reflected the continued internationalisation of Greek higher education and its growing engagement with the global academic community. Through sustained participation in major international higher education forums, Greek institutions continue to build partnerships, expand their international networks and strengthen Greece’s position as a destination for education, research and academic collaboration.
