Study in Greece (SiG) marked the beginning of a new era for the internationalization of Greek universities by carrying out a series of targeted events in India between February 1st and 7th, 2026, with the aim of developing partnerships with an extensive network of educational agents throughout the country to directly attract Indian students.
The first stop on the mission was New Delhi, where a series of meetings were held with educational advisors and the prospects for international studies were presented. In addition, the Study in Greece mission presented its vision and strategic objectives for the extroversion of Greek higher education to a wide international audience at the Greek Embassy in India. A presentation and extensive discussion took place with over 50 educational advisors from various regions of India, Nepal (Kathmandu), and elsewhere, who traveled to the Indian capital to meet with the SiG delegation. Professional agents in India and around the world are actively seeking partnerships with established organizations that operate within a central framework and are committed to the work of internationalization. As a result, the agents demonstrated a keen commitment to establishing a close, long-term partnership with SiG in order to direct Indian students to Greece. Representatives of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT) also participated in the presentations, emphasising the complementarity of studies with tourism, particularly educational tourism, as in the case of summer schools. Study in Greece and EOT, as organisations with common goals, are examining the possibility of developing a joint framework for cooperation to attract international students for short-term programmes and other similar activities.
One of the most important events of the visit is the meeting with Mr. Yerram Venkata Subba Redd, member of the Indian Parliament and coordinator of Indian ministries, including the Ministries of Education and Tourism. The meeting with the Minister of Education was unfortunately not possible due to his prior commitments, and has been scheduled for the next visit. Mr. Subba Redd was enthusiastic about the prospect of Indian students attending Greek university study programs and praised the work and efforts of Study in Greece, emphasizing that the organization fills a gap in the field of Greek higher education, functions in full accordance with international standards, and contributes significantly to promoting the country as a destination for study and research. He added that countries with similar organizations, such as Italy and France, have a significant presence in India, attracting thousands of Indian students to their universities.
Next up was Mumbai, where Study in Greece participated with its own booth at OTM, Asia’s largest international travel exhibition, which was also attended by educational consultants. Hundreds of visitors and more than 100 educational advisors from various parts of India and other countries visited the stand, expressing their admiration for the strides made by Greek universities towards internationalisation and praising the work of SiG. In addition, further collaborations were developed with educational advisors, through which Indian students are expected to enroll in international study programs.
In addition, a broad promotional campaign for Study in Greece is planned to be realized in the Hindustantimes newspaper, one of the country’s most widely-circulated newspapers, alongside a campaign on the country’s popular social media networks, while also engaging influencers who can play a vital role in the choices of their young audience.
The above highlights the great importance India places on cooperation with Greece, with education being a key pillar. In parallel, Study in Greece has developed all the necessary infrastructure and services to manage the demand that is expected to arise in the immediate future. Specifically, educational advisors, recognising the benefits that can be gained from entering a new market with significant prospects, have been trained in the use of the modern digital platform @SiG, which is designed to manage applications efficiently, in line with international standards. Through this approach, Study in Greece is laying the foundations for a targeted and comprehensive strategy to promote Greek universities not only in India but also in other countries, such as the US, Africa, the Balkans, Europe, China, and others.
This mission to India is a pioneering initiative for the internationalization strategy in Greek higher education. With Greece’s participation and coordinated direct communication with local authorities and institutions, a strong network is taking shape, offering unprecedented opportunities for Greek higher education. The partnerships that have been developed and continue to develop lay the foundations for the steady attraction and enrollment of students in Greek university programs, which are particularly attractive to Indian students seeking to study abroad.
