The University of the Aegean strengthens its international profile in the Times Higher Education Global Rankings

The University of the Aegean is once again included in two top global rankings by the international organization Times Higher Education (THE), each with its own criteria, reaffirming its position among universities with international appeal and a dynamic academic presence.

World University Rankings 2026

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, the University of the Aegean maintained its position in the range 1001 –1200 among 2,191 universities worldwide and ranked 7th among the 19 Greek universities that participated, confirming its strong presence in the international academic arena.

The University of the Aegean displayed particularly good performance in terms of its links with the business sector, ranking 281st worldwide (95th in Europe and 3rd in Greece), with a score of 83.5%,  highlighting its contribution to innovation, knowledge transfer, and the development of synergies with the labor market.

There was also a modest improvement in the indices of research quality and research environment, further strengthening the international image of the University of the Aegean as an emerging research institution with a steady growth trajectory.

Impact Rankings 2025 – Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, the University of the Aegean was ranked in the 801–1000 group among 2,389 universities worldwide and in 7th place among the 20 Greek universities that participated, confirming its position as one of the most innovative universities in Greece and confirming its consistent commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Best performances per SDG:

  • Quality Education (SDG 4): Rank 201–300
  • Life Below Water (SDG 14): Rank 301–400 (first participation of the University in this goal)
  • Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9): Rank 401–600
  • Climate Action (SDG 13): Rank 401–600

High performance in SDG 4, “Quality Education,” confirms the University of the Aegean’s steadfast commitment to upgrading the educational process and providing equal opportunities for access to knowledge.

Particularly significant is the first participation in SDG 14 “Life Below Water,” where the University achieved a fairly high performance (rank 301–400), confirming the University of the Aegean’s strong research activity in the fields of marine protection and environmental management.
