University of Ioannina

History

Following the foundation of the Society for Epirot Studies (1954), the request for the establishment of a Higher Education Institution, which would affirm Epirus’ cultural background and would promote the city of Ioannina and the wider region in every aspect, held strong. In 1964, an educational reform changed the organization and administration of schools. Under this reform, the establishment of a Department of the School of Philosophy in Ioannina, as a branch of the same School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was announced in the daily press on 8 May 1964.

For five decades, the University of Ioannina has been committed to the creation and transmission of knowledge, to innovation and cooperation on a regional, local and international level. Currently, the university has 15 departments. The schools of the University of Ioannina are as follows: Philosophy; Health Sciences; Education; Economics and Social Sciences; and Architectural Engineering. The student organisations and the university facilities (dining hall, indoor gym, running track and football grounds, university library and information centre, computer centre and network operation system, international centre of Hellenic education, culture and vocational training, university conference centre, centre of career development and employment ) in combination with the numerous multicultural events guarantee an academically rewarding study at the University of Ioannina.

The Postgraduate Studies Programme in Modern Electronic Technologies has been operating in the Department of Physics of the University of Ioannina since 1996 and has recently (2018) been reorganized with some revisions to make it even more attractive to graduate students. The Programme aims to train postgraduate students so that they could contribute to the promotion of research and development processes, as well as to the support of production in modern technological state-of-the-art areas in the fields of Modern Electronic Technologies.

Candidates should be holders of a degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Technology Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Computer and Telecommunications and Network Engineering, or other relevant specialties, either graduates from a Greek Higher Education Institute (AEI) or Technological and Educational Institute (TEI) or holders of a recognized equivalent diploma from a foreign country.

The duration of the Postgraduate Programme is three (3) semesters in which the graduate thesis is included

Atmospheric Sciences and the Environment

School of Sciences | Department of Physics

A Postgraduate Studies Programme (PSP) leading to a M.Sc. degree in Atmospheric Sciences and the Environment is effective since 1994.

To be admitted to the programme interested students should succeed in foreign language and Introductory Physics exams. Greek or foreign University or Technological Educational Institutes degree holders could participate in the admission exam. In the calculation of the admittance grade the following are taken into account: grade in the Introductory Physics exam (50%), diploma degree (20%), grades in undergraduate courses relevant to the PSP (15%) and the oral interview of the candidates (15%).
