The Athens University of Economics and Business is proud to announce the establishment of a UNESCO Head Office in Digital Methods for the Humanitarian and Social Sciences. The purpose of the Head Office is to promote digital transformation in the field of Humanitarian and Social Sciences, in the context of a wide range of international collaborations under the auspices of UNESCO. This digital transformation, which is rapidly taking place on a global scale, not only offers new opportunities for research, teaching and communication, but also enhances the impact of the humanitarian and social sciences on the economy and society. This office will bring together professors and research associates with a strong activity, international presence and experience in the application of digital methods in the field of humanitarian and social sciences, led by Professor of the Department of Computer Science Panos Konstantopoulos. It will act as a pole of broader cooperation between Greek and foreign universities and research institutions, memory organizations, networks, research infrastructures and private institutions. The Head Office’s work program aims, as well, to enhance postgraduate education in its field, promote interdisciplinary research, support for the creation of communities of practice and the development of international collaborations. The Rector of the Athens University of Economics and Business, Professor Dimitris Bourantonis, referring to the event, said: “With the opening of the UNESCO Head Office in Digital Methods for the Humanitarian and Social Sciences, the Athens University of Economics and Business contributes substantially to the cultivation of an important interdisciplinary field in Greece, and participates in the global network of information exchange and project dissemination.”
