The TUC Eco Racing (TUCer) research team of the Technical University of Crete participated for the 13th time in the international fuel economy competition Shell Eco-Marathon 2023.
This year’s competition took place at the Circuit Paul Armagnac motorway in Nogaro, France from 19.05.2023 to 26.05.2023.
For the first time, the TUCer team competed in two categories of the competition:
the competition for the economy of hydrogen-powered urban cycle vehicles, Shell Eco-Marathon Europe and Africa (Urban Concept Hydrogen), and
the Autonomous Urban Navigation Competition, and Autonomous Urban Concept Competition.
The team successfully passed the technical check in the economy competition and was deemed eligible to compete. It competed four times, finally winning sixth place. In the autonomous navigation competition, the team was not able to compete due to serious technical problems. It was its first attempt in this category, which was launched in 2022 and involves navigating the vehicle autonomously, without the presence of a driver, with a focus on low energy consumption.
Another racing experience was added to the team’s calendar, offering its members high-quality training and unique experiences.
The team leader of the marathon was Dr. Savvas Piperidis, a Faculty of Production Engineering and Management member.
