College Year in Athens (CYA), is a non-profit educational institution, which provides American undergraduates since 1962 the life-changing experience to study in Athens and familiarise themselves with the Greek Culture. Named one of the top three study abroad programs by GoAbroad in 2017 and 2018, CYA offers semester, year, winter, and summer-long courses that enable students to gain knowledge from distinguished professors in the academic community. Included in the tuition is field study to the most important sites in Greece. Extra, optional CYA-led trips in Greece and around Europe are also available.
All courses are taught in English and contain a field-study component, often taking place at monuments, museums, and important archaeological sites. Learning outside of the classroom offers students direct contact with objects of study, fosters a better understanding of subject matter, and cultivates relevant experience in the field. Course offerings span over 19 disciplines, including Classical Studies, Art History and Archaeology, Philosophy, Political Science, International Relations, Environmental Science, Anthropology, and Modern Greek. CYA often hosts visiting professors from top universities in America and all over the world.
Based in the exciting, centrally located neighborhood of Pangrati, in front of the Kallimarmaro Panathenaic Stadium, CYA helps students immerse themselves in the lively city of Athens. Rather than providing students with dormitories, CYA offers real apartments near their classes, with homestay options available for those who want to experience living in a Greek home. Students are encouraged to engage with the city by utilizing various volunteer, internship, and extracurricular opportunities offered by institutions all over Athens in partnership with CYA.
CYA extends generous scholarships and awards to students before they arrive, and offers a strong alumni network after they complete their studies. CYA has hosted more than 10,000 alumni from 550 higher educational institutions.
