The Rector of Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), Professor Nikolaos Katsarakis and the President of the National Research Center of Egypt (NRC), Prof. Hussein Darwish, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on research and innovation on Thursday, July 27, 2023 between (HMU) and the National Research Centre of Egypt (NRC). On behalf of HMU were present the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Professor Athanasios Malamos, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Student Welfare and Lifelong Learning Professor Fotios Mavromatakis, the member of the Board of Directors Professor Emmanuel Drakakis, the coordinator Professor Emmanuel Koudoumas and the Head of International Relation Office Dr. Gareth Owens, while on behalf of the NRC were present NRC Vice-President Prof. Mamdouh Moawad, the coordinator Prof Hossam El Nazer and the researchers Prof Yasser Mahmoud and Prof Ahmed El Nazer.
The Rector of HMU Professor Nikolaos Katsarakis described the cooperation between the two institutions as a very important opportunity for Southeast Mediterranean since there are many common research interests in cutting-edge fields, such as the environment, agriculture, waste management, renewable energy sources, nanotechnology and new materials etc.
On Wednesday 26 July 2023, the guests were offered a campus tour during which they had the opportunity to discuss with the educational and research staff of the institution on research programs. The Egyptian team also visited Knossos accompanied by HMU International Relations Office.
The National Research Center of Egypt was founded in 1956 (headquarters, Giza). It is considered one of the largest research centers in the Arab world with a strong international presence and many inter-institutional collaborations. High-level research is carried out at its facilities. It has 14 institutionalized areas of research in which it employs 4,847 scientists (https://lnkd.in/dmfjZJNQ).
