Greek Independence Day

The celebration of the Greek Revolution in 1821 takes place in Greece, Cyprus and at the centers of Greek Diaspora around the world. It is celebrated annually on the 25th of March, a day which is also significant for religious reasons, as the Annunciation of the Theotokos is also celebrated.

The day of the Annunciation of the Theotokos (25th of March) was defined as the inception day of Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Empire. During this day both student and military parades are being held in all of Greece. In addition, as in all important celebrations, the 25th of March is celebrated with traditional food and songs.

It is worth mentioning that the Greek Independence Day is celebrated every year in the White House as well.
