Great distinction – Four Greek universities among the 1,000 best in the world

According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), also known as the “Shanghai Ranking”, four (4) Greek universities are ranked among the 1,000 best in the world. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens has been noted highly ranked, followed by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the University of Crete, and the University of Thessaly.

This ranking is considered one of the three most important world rankings.

Since 2009, ARWU has been presenting the world’s top universities annually based on certain indicators. Each University is methodologically evaluated by his graduates and professors awarded Nobel or other important prizes, researchers whose articles have a high scientific impact and influence, articles as well as publications in the important journals Nature and Science. In addition, the list includes Universities with a significant number of publications that have been included in the Science-Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) database and in the Social Science Index Citation Index (SSCI) database.

The leading National and Kapodistrian University of Athens ranks between 301-400 globally. Furthermore, we can find three more Greek Universities in the positions 501 to 1,000. More specifically, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is ranked between 501-600, the University of Crete finds itself between 601-700, and the University of Thessaly is placed among 801-900.
