European distinction for the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in the University Virtual Trial Competition “SE Europe Regional Rounds – Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2020 (PMLMC 2020)”.

The team of the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens won the first place in the 9th Regional Round of Southern and Eastern Europe (“9th SE Europe Regional Rounds”) in the framework of the University Virtual Trial Competition “Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2020 – (PMLMC 2020) ”. (https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/centres-institutes/bonavero-institute-human-rights/monroe-e-price-media-law-moot-court-competition).

This Virtual Trial Competition, which took place on 2-4.12.2020 online due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is organized, on an annual basis, internationally by the “Bonavero Institute of Human Rights” of the Law School of the University of Oxford and, at European level (in the Southern and Eastern Regional European Round to which University of Athens belongs), by the Law School of the Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest.

This year’s case, affected by the covid-19 pandemic plaguing the world community, was about defending human rights, and in particular freedom of expression and assembly, in the face of a health crisis. At the same time, the question arose as to whether the risk of misinformation could be a legitimate reason for restricting individual freedoms. The case is available at: (https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/sites/files/oxlaw/2020-2021_competition_case_price_media_law_moot_court.pdf).
