The student aerospace team ASPiRE of the University of Western Macedonia took part and achieved to win significant distinctions in the world competition Spaceport America Cup 2021, which was attended by 153 teams from around the world.
The aim of the competition was to design and build a solid fuel rocket, which would be launched at 10,000 feet and during its course would take measurements of atmospheric conditions. The competition was held online on June 18 – 20, while all participants were judged solely by their technical documents and their overall presentation in the competition.
The team was selected along with 20 others for the presentation of a study they had conducted on the construction of the rocket wings during the event and was finally ranked second (Runner Up) at the Charles Hoult Award for Modeling & Simulation after the Australian University of Monash, for this technical analysis.
It was also ranked third among the teams with an engine designed and constructed by the team itself and with an altitude target of 10,000 feet (SRAD 10k Solid Motor class), after State University of New York at Buffalo and George Washington University.
It should be pointed out that this is the first time that a Hellenic University received the above distinctions in this competition which has been held for 15 years.
