An international distiction for a research team from the University of Thessaly in MIT competition

The research team , iGEM Thessaly, from the University of Thessaly took the gold medal in the compositional Biology competition which was organized by MIT in Boston.

The team (consisted of 10 members,students and alumni) represented its researching project entitled ‘’ODYSSEE’’ which is about the creation of a test for the early diagnosis of tuberculosis. This testwill be used in the refugee reception structures in our country. The Greek participation took the gold medal among 375 teams from all over the world. Also the ‘’ODYSSEE’’ was distinguished as the best researching project in the category of diagnosis and was nominated for the special awards of the Best Supporting Entrepreneurship and the Best Intergrated Human Practices.

The international compositional Biology competition iGEM arose as an idea of the MIT. In this competition a lot of researching projects are being represented which recommend solutions for the social problems through the compositional Biology, a discipline which connects the biology with the mechanics in order to compose new functional biological systems.
